VAL D’ARAN

Val d’Aran is a little region in the Lerida province located in the heart of the Catalan Pyrenees Mountains. To the north of its border is France, the region of Ribagorza, Huesca and Pallars Sobirá border Val d’Aran to the west the east and the south. The rivers Garona and Noguera Pallaresa are born at these huge mountains. The three official languages of Val d’Aran are Aranés (Occitan dialect), Catalan and Spanish. In the winter season one of the most popular activities is skiing at Baqueira-Beret ski resort. During the rest of the year popular activities include mountaineering, taking in the unique local culture, exploration of the local dialect Aranés (a disappearing language only spoke by a few thousand people today) and extreme sports (kayaking, rafting, mountain bike track riding, hiking among others).
